Is the Dell XPS 17 a decent model?

I'm thinking about buying it. I've selected the upgraded processor. Intel i7-2.7GHz w/turbo boost to 3.4Ghz, 1 TB hard drive, geforce GT 555M Graphics with Optimus 3GB card, 17.3" 900p screen, Blu-ray/CD Burner. I plan on using it in college and for a lot of gaming. I'm a computer science major so I can't have a shitty computer. lol. That would just be embarrassing. Is this a decent computer for gaming and applications?
